One of the more interesting speeches at Screen Producers Australia Awards this week was Bronte Pictures founder Blake Northfield.

Byron Bay based Bronte Pictures won the Breakthrough Business of the Year award at the Gold Coast ceremony on Wednesday night.

“Today for me started very differently. We woke up this morning in Byron with our house flooded, and I didn’t think I would even get here. Five hours ago we were in boots, wet and muddy …. luckily the water cleared and I sped up the highway and got here just in time,” Northfield said, to a round of applause.

Bronte Pictures has produced features The School and Streamline on Stan, Escape and Evasion on Netflix and soon to release Wyrmwood: Apocalypse, a sequel to the 2014 feature Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead.

“I’ve got a very small humble team of four people at Bronte and I love them to bits, and The Post Lounge who handle all our post production. Absolutely love you guys. Have a good night, everybody and thanks so much for having me,” he added.
