If a Golden Globe falls in Hollywood and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound……?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association today announced the winners of its 2022 screen awards with no stars, no media and no red carpet event. It follows ongoing criticism of the organisation over lack of diversity amongst its membership as well as unethical conduct with gifts.

While a private event was held at the Beverly Hilton it was left to online and social media to make the announcements -much of it upstaged by news of the tragic death of actor and comedian Bob Saget breaking at the same time.

Succession was amongst the big TV winners taking out Best Drama Series with wins for Aussie Sarah Snook plus Jeremy Strong.

Other wins included Hacks, Ted Lasso, Squid Game and Mare of Easttown.

In the film category Nicole Kidman won an acting gong for Amazon Prime movie Being the Ricardos. Another Aussie Kodi Smit-McPhee also won Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for The Power of the Dog (NZ’s Jane Campion won Best Director and it scored Best Motion Picture Drama).  There were other wins for Netflix film, Tick Tick Boom.
