As YouTube has attempting to cut into TikTok’s short-form video market share, the creators who utilize the nascent YouTube Shorts platform have rocketed up our ranking of the top 50 most-viewed US-based channels. This week’s US Top 50 looks like a TikTok invasion of sorts, though the top spots in the chart are still held by channels that appeal to young children.

Chart Toppers

Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes dropped one spot in our latest global top 50, but the destination for colorful jingles is still picking up more views per week than any other channel based in the US. The Southern California-based content producer’s latest totals include 673.9 million weekly views, which was 2% more than the viewership it accrued the week prior.

The only other US-based channel to cross the 500 million view mark this week was Like Nastya. The Russian-American family vlog picked up 511.5 million weekly views. It was followed in our US Top 50 by two more kid-friendly channels that also have Eastern European roots. Kids Diana Show‘s 407.1 million weekly views were good enough for it to hold onto the #3 position it earned in last week’s US Top 50, and Vlad and Niki finished fourth in this ranking for the second week running. That channel, anchored by its two titular boys, received 342.5 million weekly views.

This only change in this week’s US top five came in the #5 spot. WWE, a regular in these rankings and a time-honored American content brand, elbow dropped the competition thanks to its 307.8 million weekly views.

Top Gainers

The aforementioned rise of TikTok-style content on YouTube has launched so many new creators into our US top 50 that we don’t have space to profile them all. This week, I have my eye on Zhong, a TikTok star turned YouTube standout who is succeeding thanks to his cleverly staged pranks. Over our latest measurement period, Zhong picked up 102.5 million weekly views, which was enough to reach 23rd place among channels that fly the US flag.

Zhong may have made his star on TikTok, but some of his popular videos fall into the “pranks” bucket that has long been a hit on YouTube. In a clip that has been viewed more than 15.4 million times, the Russia-born creator tries to pull a fast one on his roommate, only to be hoisted upon his own petard.

This video has tight enough choreography for me to wonder if it’s all staged, but one thing cannot be denied: This guy can really fit a lot into 30 precious seconds.
