After an eventful first chart of 2022, our Global Top 50 now seems to be settling into a more predictable rhythm.
Four of the top five channels in this week’s ranking also entered into the top five last week, and the kid-friendly content hub atop our most-recent chart also occupied that position seven days ago.
For the second straight week, Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes sits at the head of our Global Top 50.
The American channel continues to corral young viewers with its diverse library of jingles, tunes, and animations. After crossing 800 million weekly views at the star of the year, Cocomelon fell back a bit, earning 799.7 million weekly views in our latest count. That slight dip did not stop the channel from bringing its subscriber total to 126 million.
The second-place channel, for the second straight week, is T-Series. For most channels, a #2 finish in the Global Top 50 would be an awe-inspiring achievement, but for the Indian record label, it represents a ho-hum week. T-Series earned 783.1 million weekly views, leaving it just behind Cocomelon in our worldwide rundown.
Another Indian channel, SET India, moved up to #3 in the Global Top 50 after placing fifth a week ago. In the second week of January the Sony-owned TV companion found itself two-thirds of the way to a billion, capturing 667.3 million weekly views. That’s quite a ways off the pace of the top two, but it’s also comfortably above the viewership registered by all other channels.
The biggest upward move in the global top five came from Kids Diana Show. The Florida-based channel, which also operates out of Dubai, increased its YouTube traffic by 61% week-over-week. That uptick allowed Diana, her brother Roma, and their parents to maneuver into fourth place in the Global Top 50. For the week, the family-focused channel received 524.6 million weekly views.
Another U.S.-based family vlog, Like Nastya, rounds out this week’s U.S. top five. The multi-cultural channel added 517 million weekly views to its lifetime total.
If you have any doubts regarding the popularity of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film’s impact on the YouTube landscape should be able to convince you that this is the biggest blockbuster of the moment.
A few weeks ago, I discussed the renaissance of old Spider-Man clips. These were thrust back into the spotlight after the webslinger returned to theaters in a decidedly nostalgic installment of his franchise.
Even user-generated Spider-Man content is thriving. This week, Brazil’s only representative in the Global Top 50 is Spider Slack, which features a person in a Spider-Man costume who does…well, just about anything, as long as it promises to bring in views. The channel’s use of a Spider-Man milieu in videos that have nothing to do with the actual franchise suggests that Spider Slack’s creator is trying to get his Shorts to appear next to heavily-trafficked Marvel clips.
Whatever the reason for this get-up, it’s working like a charm. Over seven days, Spider Slack registered 261.9 million weekly views, which was the 18th-highest total among all YouTube channels during that time. The Brazilian hub has reached high heights even though it is relatively new; if it had gotten all of its lifetime viewership (561.9 million views) this week, it still would have placed only fourth in the Global Top 50.
