In this week’s Global Top 50, the usual order has been restored — at least for now.
The channel that has spent more weeks than any other at #1 is back in that position, and another channel that recently ascended to the top spot is now back at #2. And though the five channels at the front of our Global Top 50 are the same ones that held those places last week, none of them are in the same position they occupied seven days ago.
During our most recent seven-day measurement period, the channel with the most YouTube views was T-Series.
That distinction is often unmemorable, since the Indian record label regularly tops all other comers. In this case, though, T-Series is on top of our worldwide chart for the first time in nearly a month. Its 677.6 million weekly views allowed it to squeak past last week’s #1, and though its pace has slowed down a bit since the start of 2022, it still has a chance to become the first YouTube channel with 200 billion lifetime views before the end of the year.
T-Series’ gain was Like Nastya‘s loss. The family channel has been on an incredible run lately, taking the top spots in both our Global Top 50 and our U.S. Top 50. In our first chart of June, Nastya and her folks will have to settle for second-best, even though they accrued 651.8 million weekly views on their primary channel. Though T-Series has passed Like Nastya in our global ranking, the Florida-based hub still boasts the most weekly views among U.S.-based channels.
Another U.S.-based channel, Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes, ranked right behind Like Nastya this week. The California-based company, which is owned by London-based Moonbug, has moved one spot closer to #1 since last week. Its third-place finish in the Global Top 50 was catalyzed by its 472.2 million weekly views. If it can improve on that figure next week, it will cross 130 billion lifetime views.
The only channel in the global top five that got more views this week than it did last week is Sony SAB. The Indian TV hub — which is related to regular Top 50 entrant SET India — was able to move up one spot after placing fifth a week ago. Its upswing was fueled by an 8% week-over-week viewership increase that left it with 403.2 million weekly views.
Belgium-based channel Bahauddin Dije lost 54% of its viewership week-over-week, but with 299.9 million weekly views, it was still able to claim two major accomplishments. It was the final channel in the global top five and the highest-ranking channel that operates primarily on YouTube Shorts.
Vietnamese comedy is having a moment on YouTube Shorts.
All of TN02’s videos use the vertical Shorts format. Many of them are titled with the phrase “Clip triệu view trên TIKTOK,” which indicates that the videos in question got one million views on a different short-form platform.
So TN02 may be nothing more than an aggregator, but it’s an effective one. Its most-viewed TikTok port has pulled in more than 47 million hits. I’m partial to one of TN02’s other viral videos, which pokes fun at the idea of frying an egg on the sidewalk on a hot day.
All of these micro-videos add up to big-time traffic. In our latest Global Top 50, TN02 ranked 29th. Its 193 million weekly views represented a 14% week-over-week increase. Vietnam had multiple channels in the Top 50 this week, and don’t be surprised if that trend continues. TikTok is hugely popular in the Southeast Asian nation, so YouTube Shorts has a chance to flourish there as well.
Here’s a breakdown of the Top 50 Most Viewed channels this week in terms of their countries of origin:
- United States: 18 channels in the Top 50.
- India: 13 channels in the Top 50.
- Pakistan: 4 channels in the Top 50.
- Japan and Turkey: 3 channels in the Top 50.
- Vietnam: 2 channels in the Top 50.
- Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Russia: 1 each in the Top 50.
This week, 27 channels in the Top 50 are primarily active on YouTube Shorts.
