Lately, a number of YouTube Shorts channels have claims the top spots in our global top 50 ranking. This week, however, the channel that received more YouTube views than any other is a familiar face.
The Indian channel in the #1 position may not surprise you, but there’s plenty more to discover in the latest edition of our worldwide chart.
T-Series has returned to its typical perch atop our global top 50. The Indian record label, which led this ranking for most of 2020, returned to the #1 line after securing 598.4 million weekly views. That was 7% more viewership than what T-Series pulled in last week, and it allowed the music hub to move up two spots after finishing third seven days ago.
SET India, last week’s global runner-up, remained in the #2 position this week. The Sony-owned channel, which is also the name of a popular Indian TV station, added 543.9 million weekly views in our most recent count. It also has the third-most lifetime views among all channels feature in this week’s chart.
The highest-ranking YouTube Shorts channel in this week’s global top 50, as well as the highest-ranking American channel, is LankyBox. The gaming and entertainment hub continues to use both short-form and long-form content to its advantage. It received 507.9 million weekly views during our latest seven-day measurement period, which allowed it to move into third place in the top 50.
Funny Family, which led the previous two iterations of this chart, dropped back to fourth place this week. The Japanese channel, which operates primarily on the YouTube Shorts platform, picked up 503.3 million weekly views thanks to its kid-friendly collection of micro-videos.
Sony SAB rounded out this week’s global top five. The Indian channel, which is the sister hub of SET India, registered 479.2 million weekly views with its collection of TV clips.
The #12 channel in this week’s global top 50 is Vijay Kumar Viner Vlogs. Its title references Vine, its videos are the length and orientation of those on TikTok, and its home is YouTube. Are you confused yet?
No matter which short-form platform Vijay Kumar’s videos are native to, their success cannot be denied. Kumar’s short-form clips, which often teach moral lessons, received 272.8 million weekly views during our most-recent seven-day measurement period. That was 39% more viewership than what Vijay Kumar earned a week ago, and the channel’s growth allowed it to reach the upper echelons of our worldwide chart.
Videos like this show why moralistic content, which is also produced by the American creator Dhar Mann, is so popular. Even without speaking any South Asian languages, I can understand the gist of the clip: Morally-bankrupt person spurns a poor beggar and immediately receives karmic retribution.
I’ll admit that the video’s English-language title helped me reach that conclusion, but still. It’s a timeless lesson that can be repeated the world over, and based on Vijay Kumar’s viewership, that’s exactly what’s happening.

- United States: 17 channels in the Top 50.
- India: 15 channels in the Top 50.
- Japan and Russia: 3 channels in the Top 50.
- Pakistan and South Korea: 2 channels in the Top 50.
- Argentina, Canada, Indonesia, The Netherlands, Romania, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom: 1 channel each in the Top 50.
